Summer and stories go together, and this summer, we’re listening to the stories Jesus told about the kingdom of God. In this opening message, we look at two short parables from Matthew 13: the mustard seed and the yeast. Both seem small, ordinary, and unassuming, but Jesus uses them to reveal something powerful about how His kingdom grows.
The kingdom of God doesn’t arrive like a castle, army, or political empire. It often begins in unexpected places, through ordinary people, and in ways that are easy to overlook. But like a seed becoming a tree and yeast working through dough, the kingdom grows slowly, steadily, and inevitably, until it changes everything it touches.
This message reminds us that the kingdom is not about getting bigger for the sake of being big; it grows so that others can find rest, belonging, and life in Jesus. As a church, we’re invited to live as a local expression of that kingdom, crossing barriers, reaching the overlooked, and becoming an invasive, uncontrollable movement.
