This message begins with a haunting question from the old spiritual, “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?” At first, it feels impossible, none of us were there 2,000 years ago. But through Luke 22 and the moment we call The Last Supper, we discover that Jesus gave His followers (and us) a way to enter the weight of that night: “Do this in remembrance of me.” What was once the Passover, Israel’s celebration of deliverance, becomes something new as Jesus redefines the bread and the cup: His body given for us, His blood poured out for us…a New Covenant, once and for all. Through communion, we’re invited to remember in a deeper way, not as distant history, but as a personal encounter with the cost of grace.
