For many of us, Easter’s narrative often includes the same themes and people. To be sure, the resurrection is at the heart of it all. That should never change. Still, recurring characters like Thomas & his infamous doubt and Peter & his infamous denial resurface so often at Easter that we are tempted to simply stop listening. Many of us know those stories, powerful as they are. This year, we’re going to look at the second layer, the cast who stand in the shadow of the well known and see what they can teach us about Easter’s reality – learnings we may never have seen and which we didn’t know we needed. These people are in the Resurrection’s narrative for a reason, and this year may well be it.
