He Is Worthy – 5 Day Devotional
Built around the song ‘Is He Worthy?’ by Andrew Peterson, this 5-day devotional follows the song’s questions through Scripture, naming the brokenness we feel, anchoring our hope in Christ, and ending with a steady declaration: He is worthy of all blessing and honor and glory.
Listen to the lyrics and reflect on the words.
Day 1
God meets you in the dark.
Scripture: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5
Devotional:
Shadows can make you feel alone, but darkness doesn’t hide you from God. What feels like “night” to you is not a barrier to Him. He sees clearly, moves confidently, and stays close. The world may feel broken, but God is not confused by it, and He is not intimidated by what you’re facing. The same God who formed you also keeps you, even when you can’t see the next step.
Reflection prompt:
Where do you feel most “in the dark” right now, emotionally, spiritually, or circumstantially? Who do you know that feels “in the dark” and needs encouragement?
Prayer:
God, I feel the shadows, but I choose to believe You are near. Remind me that darkness doesn’t limit You. Guide me one step at a time, and steady my heart with Your presence. Amen.
Day 2
God is near to the brokenhearted.
Scripture: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
Devotional:
Groaning often comes from heartbreak, loss you didn’t choose, disappointments you didn’t see coming, burdens you can’t fix. Psalm 34 doesn’t say God is near only when you’re strong; it says He is near when you’re brokenhearted. If you feel crushed, you are not disqualified, God draws close to you. His nearness may not remove the pain instantly, but it does mean you don’t suffer alone.
Reflection prompt:
Where do you feel crushed or emotionally tired right now? Who do you know that is feeling crushed and needs encouragement?
Prayer:
God, I feel overwhelmed and tired. Thank You for being near to the brokenhearted. Come close to me today. Give me comfort, courage, and a steady hope. Amen.
Day 3
Sacrificial love.
Scripture: “And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death- even death on a cross!” – Philippians 2:8
Devotional:
Jesus conquers in a way the world can’t understand: through humility, surrender, and sacrifice. His “victory” didn’t look like domination; it looked like love. When you’re tempted to think power is the answer, remember: the Lamb is worthy, and His way is life. The cross proves that God’s greatest strength often appears in quiet faithfulness, and that real victory can look like laying your fight down for the sake of love.
Reflection prompt:
Where are you tempted to fight for control instead of choosing Christ-like humility? How can you display humility in your home or workplace?
Prayer:
Jesus, teach me Your kind of strength. Make my life look more like the Lamb—steadfast, humble, and full of love. Amen.
Day 4
The Spirit in our midst.
Scripture: “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – 2 Corinthians 3:17
Devotional:
The song asks: “Does the Spirit move among us?” He does, often quietly, faithfully, and consistently. The Spirit brings freedom from fear, from shame, and from the exhausting need to prove yourself. He’s not only with you, He’s working in you. As you yield to Him, you begin to experience a different kind of life: less striving, more trust; less performing, more abiding; less bondage, more freedom.
Reflection prompt:
Where do you need freedom today – fear, shame, control, cynicism? What’s one step of surrender?
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, move in me today. Free me from what binds me. Make me sensitive to Your voice and brave to obey it. Amen.
Day 5
Worthy of all blessing and honor and glory.
Scripture: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” – Revelation 5:12
Devotional:
At the center of the song is a simple declaration: Jesus is worthy. Not partly worthy, fully worthy. Worthy of all blessing, all honor, and all glory. That word all confronts our tendency to give God “some” while keeping the best of our affection, attention, and trust for other things. In Revelation 5, heaven doesn’t hesitate, everything in creation joins the chorus because He has earned it. Worship isn’t flattery; it’s a truthful response to who He is and what He’s done. When you give Jesus blessing, honor, and glory, you’re not adding to Him, you’re aligning your life with reality.
Reflection prompt:
Where are you most tempted to give “glory” to something else—success, comfort, approval, control? What would it look like today to give Jesus the first and best in that area?
Prayer:
Jesus, You are worthy of all blessing and honor and glory. Forgive me for dividing my devotion and treating lesser things as ultimate. Today I choose to give You my worship with my words and my life—my attention, my trust, and my obedience. Be first in me. Amen.
