Alright, I have a confession…
I’ve been a Christ follower pretty much my whole life, but to be honest – regularly being in the Word? That’s been a bit of a challenge for me. It’s not that I didn’t want to; life just had a knack for getting in the way. But after the year that was 2020, something felt different.
For two years I had watched my daughter get up and read her Bible faithfully everyday, and began feeling extremely convicted that she was modeling this to me, and not the other way around. She definitely inspired me and I was more determined than ever that this was going to be the year that I get my act together!
Discovering A Plan
One day in December, I was watching a vlogger I follow, and she mentioned she was going to be reading The Bible Recap plan at the start of the new year. Boom! There it was – a printable plan and the cherry on top, a daily podcast to go with each day’s reading. Being the podcast junkie that I am, it felt like this was right up my alley.
A Routine that Stuck
Integrating this daily practice was a challenge, I’m not going to lie, especially on the weekends. However, as the days turned into weeks, my morning routine morphed into a ritual I eagerly anticipated. I would wake up, savor some quiet time, enjoy my coffee, and delve into the day’s reading. Then, as I got ready for the day, I’d play the 5 min podcast and reflect on what I had just read.
As the year unfolded, the initial goal of completing the entire Bible started to become a reality. What surprised me most was not just the accomplishment itself but the profound impact it had on my spiritual life. And how much I actually enjoyed the Old Testament, even though when I started I saw it as a hurdle to overcome before getting to the “good stuff.”
Those mornings spent with the scriptures became a source of genuine excitement and anticipation. It was more than a task; it was a journey that helped me connect with God on a deeper level. I’m so grateful to have found a plan that worked for me and that I stuck with it this time!
Encouragement for Others
Now, I’m definitely no Bible expert, but here’s my takeaway. If you, like me, have struggled to make time for the Word, take the plunge. It’s not about how much you know; it’s about the journey. See what God shows you in those pages. Find a plan that sets you up for success and just start.
If reading your Bible regularly has been hard for you too, don’t be afraid to tell God about your struggle, be honest with him, pray and ask him to give you a desire to read the Bible. I did this a lot and I think it was key in me sticking with it. He wants this for us!
Conclusion
Reading the Bible in a year has been a transformative journey, reshaping my approach to faith, daily living, and the act of reading scripture. The structured plan, along with the engaging podcast, turned a previously challenging endeavor into a source of daily joy and inspiration. As the year unfolded, I discovered that the Bible was not just a book to be read but a narrative that weaves its way into the very fabric of our lives, offering wisdom, solace, and guidance. This year-long commitment has not only deepened my understanding of the scriptures but has also left an indelible mark on my heart and soul, forever changing the way I look at the world around me.
I’m not done; I’m excited to dive even deeper, uncover more, and see what else God has to say through those pages!
